Do not underestimate Sensitive Teeth

Sensitive teeth is not only bad for health. Sensitive teeth too bad psychological effect. Sense of pain often makes the sufferer irritable.

Based on the results of independent research conducted by AC Nielsen on the dental health of the people of Indonesia in 2010, carrying about 50 percent of Indonesia's population experience dental problems which is an indication of pain sensitive teeth.

The data show that the Indonesian people do not understand about the problem of sensitive teeth. Usually they just leave without serious handling problems because it is considered reasonable and only occurs seasonally.

No less a person aware of dental problems because they only consider sensitive health problems that interfere with the extent of dental cavities, tartar, and the complaint because of aesthetic dental treatment (braces), not sensitive teeth are more often ignored. The data mentioned, 52 percent of people do not realize it without consulting a dentist, even 50 percent of patients remained untreated for this problem.

Dental Detailing Manager Glaxo Smith Kline Consumer Healthcare, Mary Melissa said, the people here are still many who do not understand about what is meant by sensitive teeth. That much they know, usually found only in the cavities or tartar.

"Tooth sensitivity is tooth ache sharp and short when exposed to food or drink that is too hot, cold, acid, or exposed to touch a tool (brush teeth)," he said on the show 'Sensodyne Expert Sharing' held Sensodyne, some time ago.

Part tooth sensitivity is most vulnerable to canines, small molars, and molars. In addition, the teeth of the left hand more often feel the pain than the right.

Maria explained that the sense of pain in sensitive teeth arise if the open end of the dentin tubules exposed to stimuli that change the direction of fluid movement within dentine tubules which continue to the sensor nerves. From the existence of sensitive teeth, it is mentioned that 1 in 3 people suffer from pain due to dentine hypersensitivity with most patients are those aged 20 to 50 years. With the number of patients at most are women.

"Allegedly, it's because women tend to be more diligent in maintaining dental hygiene and how to brush her teeth too hard," said Maria.

Periodontal specialists from the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Indonesia (UI FKG), Drg Robert Lessang Sp Perio said, there are many sensitive teeth due to diet, such as eating foods that are too hot, cold, or acid.

The sense of pain in sensitive teeth caused by thinning of enamel or email (the outermost layer of teeth) which of them could be caused by incorrect tooth brushing, as brushing your teeth too hard and carried out with the wrong movement is to the left and right, but the truth is to the top below.

Teeth whitening or bleaching technique that uses chemicals high concentrations can also be caused thinning of the email on the teeth.

Even when improper brushing can also affect the occurrence of tooth enamel erosion. The wrong habits such as brushing teeth immediately after brushing your teeth after eating breakfast because the mouth is acidic atmosphere which facilitates the erosion of tooth enamel when rubbed.

So, you should brush your teeth after getting out of bed in the morning, the aim isn't to clean up leftovers, but to prevent the formation of plaque or tartar. "Brush your teeth 25 minutes after a meal if you want to brush your teeth after breakfast," he advised.

Is still said to Robert, better if in a hurry, enough teeth cleaned by rinsing or food left on teeth can be cleaned with dental floss after breakfast.
