Choosing carefully Instant Food Products

When deciding to eat instant foods, it is advisable for your perusal. Especially this time of instant food scattered on the market. How secure is the food to be consumed?

"Should smart consumers identify foods that contain preservatives so that we more aware of the food consumed," said food expert from the Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) Ir Eddy Setyo Mudjajanto.

Eddy states, to identify foods that contain preservatives, for formalin preservative type and borax can be done by seeing the texture of the food that was mixed with the preservative. Such as on pempek ( a food is made from flour ) or meat balls, in which the texture of the food is very chewy.

Eddy again suggest, how to recognize the content of excessive preservatives, can be tested in animals such as cats. Consumers can try the food suspected of containing a lot of preservatives. Before the animals eat a meal, typically animal sniffed first. If food is suspected of being exposed to preservatives, these animals usually do not want to eat because the animals already know that the food is mixed with something dangerous.

"Give food to the cat, if it refuses, it means the food contains a lot of preservatives. That is because, more sensitive animals than humans, "said the professor who also teaches Industrial Management Skills Courses Food and Nutrition Service.

Identifying foods that are mixed with preservatives can also be identified from the taste. Usually the foods that contain preservatives, when eaten will taste bitter in taste at last.

Foods that have been contaminated would have more durability than normal levels, eg at pempek  who generally hold a single day, while on the already mixed pempek preservative will be longer durable, which can be up to 5 days.

Chewy taste of excessive, overly durability longer than normal, also the color is too light is not a privilege of a food. Instead of all those foods are foods that should be suspected because of the excessive use of preservatives in food over the long term this could lead to cancer.

Introducing international World preservatives, namely classified a food additive (ie, food additives / BTP). World Health Organization (WHO) interpret it as materials  intentionally added into food in small amounts. Point to correct color, shape, taste, texture, or extend the shelf.
Many people who use preservatives with reason because without preservatives, fast food is broken, that is perishable, such as meat, eggs, milk including vegetables, and fruits. The damage may take the form of mechanical, physical, physiological, biological, chemical, or microbiological damage.
