"Every Women's Risk of Cervical Cancer"

Cancer of the cervix (the cervix) can be cured if detected early and can be prevented. Unfortunately, most cases of cervical cancer is detected only after being at an advanced stage.

Cervical cancer is cancer that occurs in the cervix, the lowest part of the uterus protruding into the canal Miss V. In Indonesia, according to data issued by MOH in 2007, cervical cancer patients reach 8,000 people every hour and one patient died.

To date, cervical cancer still ranks top in overall cancer cases while breast cancer is in second place.

According to data, 34.4 percent of Indonesian women who develop cervical cancer, most of them (70 percent) came to the doctor already in an advanced stage (stage 2B). DR Laila express, reflect on this fact, cases of cervical cancer in developing countries alone is ranked lower.

"In developed countries, cases of cervical cancer ranks only 7 or 8.The cause is related to the national screening strategy which applies a country. Unfortunately, in Indonesia, the patient had come with a variety of complaints and it is definitely an advanced stage, "he added.

Awareness of population health developed countries to detect the self, including the detection of cervical cancer, classified as very high, as affirmed by John K. Gynecologist Chan of the Division of Oncology UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center, UCSF School of Medicine.

"The awareness of early detection is very good, so it can be quickly addressed," said John replied DR statement Laila, on the same occasion.

"In fact, it can be said that cancer deaths are more painful because it is frequently accompanied by pain are difficult to overcome," said Dr. Laila.

Symptoms

Cervical cancer at an early stage is usually not given any symptoms and only show symptoms when it stepped on an advanced stage. Some symptoms that warrant concern, such as bleeding after intercourse, vaginal discharge, smelly and sometimes mixed with blood, and bleeding between menstrual cycle / after menopause.

Causes and risk factors

World Health Organization states that 90 percent of cervical cancers caused by HPV (human papilloma virus). While some risk factors for cervical cancer, is having sex at a young age, frequently changing sex partners, often suffer from infections in the genital area, and smoking.

Risk factors may increase the likelihood of cancer, every type of cancer has an different risk factors. However, it does not mean that every risk factor would be affected by cancer.

"Meanwhile, the risk factors that say women are more at risk of cervical cancer because many children, is not too strong. The message is misleading, "said Dr. Laila.
